Brief

The brief that we have to do is:

How can we improve the whatsapp experience to collect different opinions and make group decisions in a short time and without much effort?

Moreover, we also have to keep in mind these elements:

  • We only click 3 times.
  • We have to do low fidelity wireframes and afterwards we have to create an interactive prototype.

Solution

Once the objectives and requirements that we already laid out are clear, we can start to study our target audiences.

First of all, they will be people who use WhatsApp frequently. Therefore, they will be able to use technologies, with an average age between 15 and 60.

Our target audience could use this new function when they want to set a day to have a meal, ask what bar they want to go to, decide what movie they want to see at the cinema…

Currently, these functions are done by asking openly in the group and then collecting all the answers. Taking into account that many times a lot is said by the group and it is difficult to find all the information.

For this reason, it is proposed to add a new function that consists of making a survey using the WhatsApp App.

Therefore, we will analyze how other survey websites do this process, such as Doodle and Google, where we can make surveys using our emails.

After analyzing the competition, we will start to design our low fidelity wireframes.

We should bear in mind that IOS and Android interfaces are different, therefore, we will do the same process for both options.

It is decided that the best option will be to insert the survey in another menu, because it is not a daily action. Therefore, if we have it in the main screen it will be useless.

We can find the survey in the same menu where we can send pictures, locations, contacts…

Once the survey is selected, a screen will appear that will allow you to be able to write a title and to add different options. By default, you will write two options, but when the second one is filled, a new gap will appear automatically in case you need to use it. Finally, the survey will be sent and users from the same group will be able to vote which option they prefer.

With these steps, the brief will be done. And with 3 clicks the survey will be sent. But, my workmate and I have decided to design what could happen when someone votes.

When an option is selected, it will be highlighted and the user will be able to see the vote percentages. Moreover, they will be able to edit their vote and to see the results pushing the text or entering to the group settings.

Finally, this will be the result.

Future improvements

When the prototype is done, it is very important to make a test with the target audience to see if it is useful and to know if the users can find the survey and use it properly.

Another option that could also take place is to add the survey onto the main screen, because with this change the number of clicks would be reduced. Although, as I have explained above, it is not a frequent action, so this is why we would place it inside the menu. That is one of the reasons why making tests is very important, because by taking them, we will know which option is better .
